Ah, for just one time
I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;
Tracing one warm line
through a land so wild and savage
And make a Northwest Passage to the sea.

If you are looking for something you don't know exists is the search for such an object worth time? Is it the journey or the destonation? Does the journey make the destination worth the trip? Does it really? They had faith in their dream. That faith made the trip worth while. In hindsight we find that the trip made the destination. The faith that their goal was real kept them to discover something that that dream could not fathom.

unfortunately, most of them also died when the ice locked up. The arctic circle tends to do that.
