Tonight I went to a thing put on by the Christians in Founders called Deedz...basically everyone gets together, makes bagged lunches and hot chocolate, and heads downtown armed to the teeth with warm food and clothing to hand out.
I was decidedly out of my comfort zone.
I think that the Bridge in ptbo has it down when they avoid the sandwich/breadline mentality. Homeless people are pretty tired of sandwiches, and rightly so. The good parts were when you'd get a talkative guy, and a few folk would sit down crosslegged and have a smoke with them on the grate.
Dave Blondel took the youth group out to hand out sandwiches a few years back, and it freaked me out, because I realized how little a lunch really is. Also, it made me realize a lot about respecting people's personal space, and not feeling a sense of entitlement to it just because I'm a Christian with hot chocolate.
So, a bunch of groups do the whole sandwich/hot chocolate handout deal. We passed by one, and a pretty girl said "Hey! I know you!" Turns out that she knows Meaghan...saw her sing at the Huizenga farm in Uxbridge. This struck us both as hilarious, we laughed and laughed.
The night ended with me being invited to, like, three church services on campus. I think I'll take the catholic dude up on his offer, too. Good vibes.
So, what do you want for Christmas?

I want what I can't have...at least, not yet.
I want the man I love.
